New to this movie we have Sir Michael Caine who plays his most iconic character, Finn McMissile (who is also the most powerful Pixar character). The movie stars a lot of big names such as the returning Larry the Cable Guy (the biggest name) as Mater and Owen Wilson as Lightning McQueen (wow) alongside the majority of the Radiator Springs gang (who are so minor in this movie that I don’t feel the need to name drop any more of them) returning. Dan Fogelman and Ben Queen also wrote the movie because you need four people to write a masterpiece like this. It was co-directed and co-written by Brad Lewis. Maybe it’s the amount of time I spent playing the video game as a kid and rewatching the original with my younger brother, maybe the franchise takes me back to a time where everything was simpler.Ĭars 2 was the last Pixar movie to be directed and written by John Lasseter, it’s so funny that this creeps last movie that he had a lot of involvement with is inarguably the worst Pixar movie. My weird obsession with the Cars franchise has led me to watch Cars 2 half a dozen times throughout my life, I’ve watched it more times than I’ve watched movies I actually like, I have a problem where I both can’t get enough Cars but still don’t think the franchise has anything above like a 7 / 10. It’s easy to passionately defend a movie you like and everybody else dislikes, but to defend something you think is underrated because everybody thinks it’s the worst thing in the world and you think it’s just alright is difficult, it’s hard to get passionate about mediocrity. The hardest thing is defending a movie that you only think is mediocre, it was easy to defend the original Cars, but with Cars 2 it’s not going to be me saying it’s good, it’s going to be me saying it’s a perfectly serviceable kids movie. I also like the Cars franchise and believe all three movies are underrated to some extent. It doesn’t do much right but it also doesn’t do much wrong, it’s the perfect 5 / 10. I’m in a weird position when it comes to Cars 2, on one hand, yeah, it’s the worst Pixar movie, but on the other hand I don’t think it’s awful, I just think it’s mediocre. Today’s the day, the day I come to the conclusion as to whether cars fuck or not… also I guess I’ll review Cars 2.
